International Women's Day 2020 Workshop Programme announced!!!

Our celebration event for International Women's Day will be held on Saturday 14th March. So pop the date in your diary and don't miss out!

This years workshops will include: a group Sound Bath from HolisticSoul, T'ai Chi for self defence, yoga and meditation, tales from the henhouse, all that jazz (singing), and willow weaving.

Plus, if the weather is kind Stornoway Rowing Club and the Embark project are hoping to offer some sessions on rowing and cycling.

There will be also be an art exhibition, lunches provided by Sgoil a' Bac Parent Council, and a wide range of stalls in the main hall.

This year rather than have a charity raffle we have decided to support Eilean Siar Food Bank by collecting donations, we would particularly welcome donations of feminine hygiene products and toiletries as they are less likely to be donated and hugely appreciated by beneficiaries. So please help us by bringing along a little something to donate.

Full programme of workshops:

Sound Bath 12-1pm
As the crystal singing bowls play, you will slowly become focused on the sound and soon forget about the others in the room. We'll start with a short guided relaxation before the sound begins. Let the vibrations from the crystal singing bowls and Tibetan Gong wash over you as they re-balance every cell in your body, align your chakra system, release stress and leave you feeling energised, restored & more positive.

Tales from the henhouse 12-12.45pm

Meet Jayne, who swapped her power suits and heels, for overalls and wellies when she returned from the city to the croft. Jayne loves her crofting life and is crazy about her hens.  Find out what it is about hen keeping that she loves so much, meet some of her favourite girls and maybe share some of your own stories too.

All That Jazz – Singing    1-2pm
For those who remember music & movement at school this is a
modern update; sing your heart out and let your body move to the rhythm of 'All that jazz' from Chicago. Lift your spirits and give your heart a workout, enjoy this shared experience for an easy, fun session. You do not have to be able to sing! Lyric sheets will be provided.

Tai Chi for self-defence 1.15-2.15pm

T’ai chi is a Chinese martial art. It is characterised by soft-flowing movements and, as well as providing a comprehensive and accessible method of self-defence, is widely acknowledged as having a range of health benefits.

This session will be an introduction to the t’ai chi form and its basic applications. Comfortable clothing and flat shoes advised.
Yoga and meditation 2.30-3.30pm
All abilities welcome for a grounding meditation and  gentle Mindful Movement practice.

Willow Weaving 2.30-4pm
An introduction to basic willow weaving; you will learn about the background to willow weaving and get to make your own willow fish and stars.

Please note, places on some workshops are limited due to space/equipment, so we recommend you sign up on arrival on the day to avoid disappointment. Places cannot be booked before the event.

PLUS weather permitting throughout the day:
